Our 2012 Polar Bear Run, which we held on December 31, 2011, was simply beautiful. The weather, the Spirit, the fellowship and the food were all perfect.

We were blessed to have 58 bikes (or trikes) and 71 people participate. The group met for coffee and fellowship starting at around 9 am, under partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50′s.

We left for our ride at 10:30 am as the temps reached into the 60′s. We had a beautiful sunny ride up 5 to Gainsville, MO, then across 160 and back to Mountain Home on 201. We got back at 12:30 just in time for hot dogs, chili, and all sorts of chips and goodies from the many wonderful cooks of RRJ 24.

We gave away many door prizes, filled up on apple cider and told many tails of other rides in snow and ice and such. But today was perfect. And the best was that many bikes and trikes were blessed for the new year, thanks to Chaplain George and his willing assistants Dave and Gregory.

Natchez Trace Run 2011

IMG_0462.JPG

IMG_0462.JPG

Linda and Dean Sallee, John and Marilyn Schaub, Vicky Crawford and Bill and Fran Patrick participated in the Natchez Race Run in early September 2011.

Our plan had been to ride south to Morgan City, LA to attend the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival and then head northeast to Natchez, MS to follow the Natchez Trace. From there, Bill, Fran and Vicky were continuing to the RRJ International Days of Praise Rally.

But then came Tropical Storm Lee with high winds, driving rain and flooding.

We got as far south as Winnfield, LA when we realized that Lee would prevent us from reaching Morgan City. On Friday morning, 9/2, we decided to change our route and head for Natchez and  the Trace. It was a short and comfortable ride from Winnfield to Natchez with just a few showers to help with the heat.

Natchez was beautiful and full of the history of our country as it developed along the Mississippi River. The visitors reception center is full of interesting exhibits that tell the story of the Natchez area. The city of Natchez has many historical landmarks including dozens of mansions restored to reflect the early times in the south. After a delicious lunch in a local downtown restaurant, and with rain clouds forming overhead, we left Natchez on the Trace and headed northeast.

We spent Friday night in Clinton, MS. But Saturday AM brought more showers and a forecast of heavy rain.

Linda and Dean decided to head for Pine Bluff and home, hoping to miss most of he rain. The rest of the group continued north up the Trace hoping to outrun the rain that way. Neither plan worked completely, but we all had good riding days and plenty of great vistas. The group that continued up the Trace made it to Tupelo, MS by Saturday evening. The ride on the Trace was cool, with a few light showers.

Sunday AM brought heavy rain across most of the South. Bill, Fran and Vicky needed to continue north to the RRJ Days of Praise Rally. John and Marilyn headed west through Memphis to Mountain Home.

Mountains, Music and Motorcycles 2011

IMG_0411.JPG

Our Tools

It is a simple formula. Take cold water and some Bibles to a very hot, summer weekend motorcycle rally. Setup a booth and offer the water and Bibles free, then offer prayers and blessings as a bonus.

It worked again this year. I don’t know who received the greater blessings, the people who stopped by the booth, or the people who greeted them with cold water and a message of hope.

Many, many thanks to Bill and Fran Patrick, who worked tirelessly to take our supplies to Mountain View, setup the booth, work all day in the hot sun, and then pack up and take things home again. It was a major effort to honor the Lord and bless the folks who attended this event.

Many thanks also to Lois and Warren who got the water and other supplies.

And none of it would have been possible without Charlie, Don and John who rode to Mountain View and worked the booth all day, in the hot, very hot, really really hot, sun. Thanks guys.

Supper Ride Hot But Delicious

Dinner at Roscoe's

Dinner at Roscoe's

OK, yes it was hot and after working the morning on the Back Pack Benefit Ride, everyone was tired.

That was a perfect reason to take a cooling, leisurely ride to Roscoe’s for some of the best food in the area.

It was a short ride out 5 to 177 and directly to the air conditioned dining room.  We had a great meal, good fellowship and then back the way we came for an early evening.

Back Pack Ride A Success

Start of the 2011 Backpack Benefit Ride

Start of the 2011 Backpack Benefit Ride

The 2nd annual “We Can Make a Difference Benefit Ride” is now in the record books.

The official numbers will be out soon, but the initial counts were 144 riders on 106 bikes. The most important statistic is that we raised over $3,500 for area children.  The Backpack Food Program is sponsored by area church groups, who fill packs with nourishing, non-perishable food, then deliver them to children, who remain anonymous, on Fridays during the school year.

Chapter 24 of the Road Riders for Jesus helped with registration and parking. Our R.U.T.H.S. group sold tee shirts to raise additional funds for the Backpack program. See all of the pictures in our gallery (click here).

pond 035.jpg

Lois, Vickey, Fran, Darlene

The retreat was held in Dittmer,Mo. And was really easy to find, just off hwy 44 in Mo. There were only 4 from our chapter that was able to go, but what a time we all had, and if you look at some of the pictures you will get an idea of the fun we had. First of all the retreat we stayed at was the nicest retreat that I had ever seen, it’s call Sojourn a Christian Retreat just Beautiful.

Our rooms all had big full bathrooms, and ours well we had 3 bunk beds and 1 full size bed which could sleep 8 people but only 4 of us. The four of us was Fran Patrick, Vickie Crawford,

Lois Symonds and myself Darlene Bearden all & all very comfortable. When we arrived and unpacked we headed to the meeting room, we met many chapters of RUTH’S. We were all

There for the same purpose, Fellowship, Worship and some

Enlightenment on what Ruth’s really means….

Riding Under the Holy Spirit

We all got our patches, and Sally had her Garments, patches and pins just for us women. The seminars and all of the testimonies

Were Awesome ,everyone participated and then the first night after a Great meal of the best Brisket I have ever eaten you could cut it with a fork and all the fixin’s to go with that & Dessert…

And would you believe it was   (1 man who cooked it)

We all took a moon lit walk down to the fire pit for a good old campfire, there was a lot of singing and one thing that stick out from all the song hymns was one I never heard. Son of Abraham and they all sang it and added all the motions with the hands      & foot stomping. The next morning we had Breakfast and were as good as last night meal. We went back into the meeting room for some more fellowship and door surprises for all.

This was a Great Ruth’s Women’s 1st Annual National Retreat

Looking forward to the next one…

It’s A Harley!

Bill & Fran Announce Their New Arrival

Bill & Fran Announce Their New Arrival

Bill and Fran Patrick Announce the arrival of their new (to them) Harley Davidson Road King.

On Sunday, July 18, 2011, Bill returned home with their 95 in., 812 lb., fire engine red baby Harley.

Bill picked up the bike Friday evening in Colorado Springs where his son Troy had taken delivery and gotten everything ready.

After a test drive and a quick stop at Pikes Peak Harley Davidson for an oil change Bill left for Arkansas on Saturday. He rode hard in 105 deg. temps, but the 2010 Road King, with only 500 miles at delivery, just hummed along ever so smoothly.

After taking a rest Saturday night, Bill was back on the road Sunday morning. He arrived at Sams Club in Springfield by 2:30 pm. Fran, Vickey, Marilyn, George and John got there at 3:30 pm to greet Bill and escort him back to Mountain Home.

The Chapter is blessed by this new arrival and we are all looking forward to many, many enjoyable rides with Bill and Fran.

Check out all the wonderful pictures of the blessed event (here).
