President’s Report – April 2012

RRJ Chapter 24 President’s Report

Greetings Chapter 24 Brothers and Sisters,

With this wonderful Spring weather, I hope all of you have had a chance to blow the dust off, get your bikes out and ride. But please check your equipment and bikes carefully. Safety is always first.

We had a wonderful chapter ride Sunday, March 25 to visit the Izard County Riders Swap Meet in Melbourne. On the way back we had the opportunity to grab a cold soda at a golf course pro-shop. This gave us the chance to witness to a completely different group.

Another great ride was when we joined the Blue Knights on March 31 for a ride to support the grand opening of Hog Leathers in Lakeview. We began with breakfast at Mel’s Dinner and then rode with the Blue Knights up 178 to the Lakeview event.

Both of these rides were excellent opportunities to get our name and the name of our Lord out before a wider audience in our community. We have many opportunities like this every month, and each time we wear our colors in public, we are being a witness to our faith.

I have included a list of some mostly secular events where we would have the chance to join and witness. If you can make any of these rides, that would be great. But be careful because secular motorcycle groups may not have the same attitudes towards language and behavior as we do.

April looks to be a quiet month and a chance to get ready for the events of May and June. Our membership meeting Thursday, April 19 will be a time to plan for these important events.

I am sorry to report that the Road Riders for Jesus Chapter 77 Rider Safety Seminar that was scheduled for April 21 has been canceled. I’ll report on a new date when it is available.

Warren is heading for the Missouri State Rally in Union, MO. He’s leaving 5/18 to spend the night up there and attend the rally and return 5/19. He is looking for company on the ride.

We are having our semi-annual kettle corn fund raiser at Wal-Mart May 25 and 26. This is the working part of our Sonrise Ride in which we raise funds for Road Riders for Jesus International. 100% of the money we raise at this fund raiser goes to International. We need lots of help, and we will have a sign-up sheet at the meeting.

A group of us are riding to Hot Springs to help RRJ Chapter 77 with their Sonrise Ride event. They are doing the parking concession at the Mid-America Rally, which runs from May 31 through June 2 at the Garland County Fairgrounds. Our group is leaving from the Berean Church parking lot at 5:30 PM May 31 to ride to the Hot Springs area where we will stay in motels or camp. We will be helping Chapter 77 with parking and booth activities all day Friday, June 1. Then we will return Saturday, June 2 to join the rest of Chapter 24 on the Sonrise Ride.

With the fund raising part done, the fun part of our Sonrise Ride comes after the Mens Prayer Breakfast on June 2. While Charlie is hosting the Mens Breakfast, Diana will be having breakfast with the women. Then everyone will gather at Berean Church and ride to the Cracker Barrel in Conway to meet up with the group returning form the Mid-America Rally. After lunch, everyone will return together.

For those wishing to participate in helping Chapter 77 with the Mid-America Rally, I will have maps, registration, hotel and camping information at the membership meeting.

I am looking forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions as we complete plans for a busy May and June. Please attend our membership meeting April 19, and why not bring a friend?

May the Lord bless each of you.

John

Fulfilling Our Purpose and Mission

March 8, 2011

Greetings Chapter 24 Brothers and Sisters,

We had a very informative presentation by Bill Patrick at the Rider Safety Seminar this month. Thank you Bill and thank you all for your participation. For those who missed this, Bill will be conducting another seminar in Hot Springs soon. I will keep you informed of the dates.

At the February membership meeting, I asked some questions about who we are and why we exist. I’ve been asking these questions for a while now, seeking to understand what I must do as your Chapter president.

While there has been and will continue to be lots of discussion about our purpose and our mission, I believe George said it best when he pointed us to the statements in the RRJ membership application.

When each of us joined, we agreed to this statement: “We believe our motorcycles are tools to be used of he Lord as a way of reaching the lost, encouraging new converts and providing Christian fellowship.”

Our purpose and mission falls into these three categories:

1. Reaching the Lost
2. Encouraging New Converts
3. Christian Fellowship

Below you will find a partial list of events we are either considering or have committed to for this year. It’s a busy year already, and we have just started! This schedule needs to be further discussed at our next membership meeting.

One thing I must finalize at this next meeting is the level of our participation in the Mid-America Bike Week. Here’s a note from Steve Johnson, president of RRJ77:

There is a rally going on here in hot springs may 31 – June 3 benefiting the disabled veterans ( www.Mid-AmericaBikeWeek.org ) we are looking at making a lot of money for RRJ nationals, we could use some help because we are doing all the parking & we get the parking money. If you can help you will get to camp free, if you can let me know, carl will be speaking on Thursday & cliff that spoke at the rally last sept. will be speaking on sat. Let me know if you or someone in your chapter can help. Thanks

We talked about making this our Sonrise event. That way we can raise money for International with our Kettle corn sales May 25-26, and then we can help with the parking at the Mid-America rally May 31-June 3.

As you can see from Steve’s note, he needs to know how we will be helping him, so he can plan. We will discuss this in more detail at our membership meeting March 15.

Here are the events we have on the schedule as of now:

May 25-26 — Kettle Corn Sales at Wal-Mart

May 31-June 3 — Mid-America Rally – Sonrise Ride

Jun 29-July 1 — Red, White & Blue Rally ?? not sure of dates or participation

July 21 — Back Pack Ride for food bank ??

Aug 17-18 — Mountains, Motorcycles, Music Rally ?? not sure of dates

Sep 6-8 — Days of Praise Rally Sept 22 Cotter Bridge Bash for food bank ??

Oct ?? — Kettle Corn Sales at Wal-Mart

In addition to these, we have the Mens Breakfast on the 1st Saturday of each month, with a fellowship rider following.

We also discussed additional fellowship rides and pot lucks to fulfill our mission of Christian Fellowship and Encouragement.

Please visit our website (rrj24.org) for up-to-date information, and please plan to be at our membership meeting March 15.

May the Lord bless each one of you.John

Polar Bear Run 2012

Our 2012 Polar Bear Run, which we held on December 31, 2011, was simply beautiful. The weather, the Spirit, the fellowship and the food were all perfect.

We were blessed to have 58 bikes (or trikes) and 71 people participate. The group met for coffee and fellowship starting at around 9 am, under partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50′s.

We left for our ride at 10:30 am as the temps reached into the 60′s. We had a beautiful sunny ride up 5 to Gainsville, MO, then across 160 and back to Mountain Home on 201. We got back at 12:30 just in time for hot dogs, chili, and all sorts of chips and goodies from the many wonderful cooks of RRJ 24.

We gave away many door prizes, filled up on apple cider and told many tails of other rides in snow and ice and such. But today was perfect. And the best was that many bikes and trikes were blessed for the new year, thanks to Chaplain George and his willing assistants Dave and Gregory.

Many, many thanks to all of our guests and all of the Chapter 24 members who honored the Lord on this beautiful day.

The retreat was held in Dittmer,Mo. And was really easy to find, just off hwy 44 in Mo. There were only 4 from our chapter that was able to go, but what a time we all had, and if you look at some of the pictures you will get an idea of the fun we had. First of all the retreat we stayed at was the nicest retreat that I had ever seen, it’s call Sojourn a Christian Retreat just Beautiful.

Our rooms all had big full bathrooms, and ours well we had 3 bunk beds and 1 full size bed which could sleep 8 people but only 4 of us. The four of us was Fran Patrick, Vickie Crawford,

Lois Symonds and myself Darlene Bearden all & all very comfortable. When we arrived and unpacked we headed to the meeting room, we met many chapters of RUTH’S. We were all

There for the same purpose, Fellowship, Worship and some

Enlightenment on what Ruth’s really means….

Riding Under the Holy Spirit

We all got our patches, and Sally had her Garments, patches and pins just for us women. The seminars and all of the testimonies

Were Awesome ,everyone participated and then the first night after a Great meal of the best Brisket I have ever eaten you could cut it with a fork and all the fixin’s to go with that & Dessert…

And would you believe it was   (1 man who cooked it)

We all took a moon lit walk down to the fire pit for a good old campfire, there was a lot of singing and one thing that stick out from all the song hymns was one I never heard. Son of Abraham and they all sang it and added all the motions with the hands      & foot stomping. The next morning we had Breakfast and were as good as last night meal. We went back into the meeting room for some more fellowship and door surprises for all.

This was a Great Ruth’s Women’s 1st Annual National Retreat

Looking forward to the next one…

It’s A Harley!

Bill & Fran Announce Their New Arrival

Bill & Fran Announce Their New Arrival

Bill and Fran Patrick Announce the arrival of their new (to them) Harley Davidson Road King.

On Sunday, July 18, 2011, Bill returned home with their 95 in., 812 lb., fire engine red baby Harley.

Bill picked up the bike Friday evening in Colorado Springs where his son Troy had taken delivery and gotten everything ready.

After a test drive and a quick stop at Pikes Peak Harley Davidson for an oil change Bill left for Arkansas on Saturday. He rode hard in 105 deg. temps, but the 2010 Road King, with only 500 miles at delivery, just hummed along ever so smoothly.

After taking a rest Saturday night, Bill was back on the road Sunday morning. He arrived at Sams Club in Springfield by 2:30 pm. Fran, Vickey, Marilyn, George and John got there at 3:30 pm to greet Bill and escort him back to Mountain Home.

The Chapter is blessed by this new arrival and we are all looking forward to many, many enjoyable rides with Bill and Fran.

Check out all the wonderful pictures of the blessed event (here).

Mountains, Music and Motorcycles

Chapter booth at 2010 Mountains, Music and Motorcycles

“I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.” (Mark 9:41)

Saturday, August 21, 2010, following the Chapter 24 membership meeting, most of the chapter made our way to Mountain View to work the Chapter booth at the 2010 Mountains, Music and Motorcycles festival.

Our president, Bill Patrick, and his wife Fran had made the trip the night before to setup the booth and get everything ready. We had water, ice, tracts, Bibles and a friendly smile for every one of the hundreds of visitors who stopped by our booth. With temperatures in the high 90′s, and the heat index well into the triple digits, our iced bottles of water seemed especially cool and refreshing. It’s safe to say we were the most popular stop in our area.

2010 Mountains, Music and Motorcycles

By mid-afternoon we had handed out over 500 bottles of water, met hundreds of new friends, given pocket testaments to dozens and membership applications to dozens more; and most of all, we had fulfilled the Lord’s command to give a cup of water in His name.

Many thanks to Bill and Fran, Warren and Lois, Charlie and Diana, George, Jim, John and Marilyn, and the entire Chapter for this wonderful ministry event.

Prayer Changes Things – Praise The Lord

I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Alvin, the Hot Springs member who went down last week. While he was not suppose to be out of the hospital yet……………..He was released yesterday. He has 4  cracked ribs on the right in back and 4 cracked ribs in front on the right and his right lung is bruised. He called to thank our chapter for all the prayers and asked for us to  continue to pray for him for a while. He is still stiff and a deep breathe causes a lot of discomfort, but he is home up and walking about. God can do wonders when we pray.

Oh, and he is bike shopping.
